The Hamerkwartier is one of the main urban regeneration areas in the northern part of Amsterdam. A historic industrial area overlooking the IJ, it will be transformed into a high-density mixed-use neighborhood (housing, services, and production spaces). The project includes the construction of the new Javabrug, a strategic pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting the city center with Amsterdam-Noord.
We were responsible for developing masterplanning and landscape solutions, studying the inclusion of the bridge, new green spaces, linear parks, public transport connections, and development areas. The design approach integrated environmental sustainability, enhancement of existing resources, redevelopment of industrial assets, and improvement of urban quality.
