In the heart of Ortigia, an island rich in Greek, Roman, Arab, and Baroque historical layers, we confronted a strategic urban void: a forgotten space yet potentially connecting distant parts of the city. The challenge was to create an open-air theater accessible to the community, capable of enhancing the historical context and the urban landscape.
The project involved a morphological and functional analysis of the urban fabric, interaction with the existing historic building, and the development of new architectural configurations for the inclusion of an open cultural infrastructure. The firm integrated environmental, social, and regulatory aspects to regenerate the site with a contemporary yet context-sensitive language.
